Life Living Off Grid, Do’s and Don’ts…

There are some people who live out in the country or in the mountains, or even in other countries. This is where the term “Off Grid” is sometimes loosely mis-used, only meaning that these people are living out in the country, off any paved or gravel roads. Off the beaten path, so to speak. This is not the correct meaning of this term, although it is usually understood, it can be confusing at times.

The term “Off Grid”, correctly used, actually means, that you do not have electricity furnished to your residence, by a Utility company. This power is also referred to as Shore Power, by RVer’s or Marine/Boats.

Now, if you are off “The Power Grid” or “The Electrical Grid.” This means that you have no Grid Power.

This does not mean that you don’t have some other source of electricity.
You can always make your own electricity, with things like Sunlight, (Solar panels) Wind Power, (a Wind Turbine) or Water Power, (a Flow Generator) and even a Gas powered Generator.

Most of these use a 12 or 24 volt Battery Bank for storing electricity, during the night time or the days of less daylight (the winter months). These Other Sources of Electrical Energy are Usually Direct Current (D.C.), not the usual Alternating Current (A.C.) from a grid server.

An inverter may be needed to change the D.C. current, into A.C. current, before it is usable for many house appliances. I caution you to be very care and consult with an electrician before attempting to do this.

Where I live, it is in the country, there are no good roads, and there is not Grid power available either.

There are very few people around here as well, so this may be why there are some Sasquatches around here, but I do know of and hear of, several Sasquatch sightings, on paved roads, fairly close to houses, where people do live, this is getting to become more frequent.
